A Red Carpet Affair

On Friday, April 19th, the seventh and eighth graders of St. Ann School will have the opportunity to enjoy "A Red Carpet Affair!" The first annual semi-formal dance will be hosted by the Student Council with special music provided by DJ Johnny. After entering the venue on a red carpet, special red, white, and black themed food will be provided along with a photographer to take pictures in front of our own "stand and repeat screen." Tickets are $10 per person. Students are welcome to bring a friend as long as they bring a signed permission slip upon arrival.

Don't miss it! Volunteers are welcome...and encouraged! :)

Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Online Assessment

The online assessment for participating Blue Ribbon School candidates is now available! In Tuesday folders, a formal letter from Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, Inc. explains the purpose and importance of the assessment. Parents, staff, and students will respond to approximately 60 questions to determine if St. Ann School is meeting the performance standards for educational excellence. Family codes can be found at the top of the letters for your convenience. If you happen to misplace the code before you have an opportunity to respond, please don't hesitate to email me, Miss Walker at awalker@stannnash.org.

Please take a few minutes to provide your thoughts and feelings about your child's educational experiences!

7th Graders are "Smartie" Pants!

The Iowa Testing is underway at St. Ann School. We have worked, trained, sweated, and cried in our pursuit for excellence. We could not be better prepared!

Still, there are few things that each of us can do to be our best for each day of testing.

1. Sleep tight, and don't let the bedbugs bite.

2. Eat a hearty breakfast.

3. When testing, take your time and think.

4. Pray that the Lord brings forth all of your learning for the test.

We're going to ace this test!

Love Is in the Air

Valentine's Day was LOVELY! The seventh graders played games and enjoyed snacks like red velvet cupcakes (thanks Madeline!), cookies, candy, and red Kool-Aid.

Have you ever watched the television game show Minute-to-Win-It? We played a Valentine's Day version with games like "Heart A-stack." Using Conversation Hearts, participants had to stack as many hearts as possible in one minute. Then, a couple contestants played "Love Nose Best" by balancing as many candy hearts on their noses as possible for one minute. A good time was had by all!

Capitol Tour

The Student Council had the distinct honor of touring our city's Capitol Building on Tuesday, February 7th. We had a blast!

After parking at the Farmers' Market, we had a steep hill to climb. Some made it look easier than others. :) Once atop the hill, we passed the burial site of former President James K. Polk and his wife, Sarah. The tour guide, who was by far the most hilarious tour guide ever, told us that President Polk's home was located where the Main Library is today. Since the Polks were laid to rest on their property, they were moved to a more peaceful location before the library was built. Another fun fact about dead people and the Tennessee Capitol Building is that two former architects are entombed in the walls. William Strickland, who modeled the building after a Greek Ionic temple, can be found in the northeast wall. Samuel Dold, who oversaw the construction of the building, can be found in the southeast wall.

One of the most educational parts of our tour was viewing the painting, Pride of Tennessee. It depicts eleven people who played a prominent role in Tennessee's history. A few notables in the painting are former Presidents Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Sequoyah, and Davy Crockett.

At the conclusion of our tour, we walked the grounds and looked at the monuments in Bicentennial Park. Last, but not least, we rolled to the Farmers' Market for our trip back to school.
